To many people, North Conway and its shopping strip are Mt. Washington Valley - but those of us who live here know there's lots more to this section of town. There's the village, with its signature train station, small shops and restaurants, the park, playground, summer theatre and golf course. Kearsarge, the section of town northeast of the village, basically along Kearsarge Road and eastward, is primarily a residential area, though it's home to several B&Bs. To the west of the village, off River Road and West Side Road, are a number of other residential neighborhoods, including Birch Hill and Hale's Location, which is actually an unincorporated town.
Population:
8,481 (for the entire town of Conway).
Schools:
John Fuller Elementary School includes 1st through 8th grade. Students then go to Kennett High School in Conway.
Government:
The town offices are on Rt. 302 in Center Conway.
Recreation:
North Conway has as much recreation in a small area as anywhere in the Mt. Washington Valley. In front of the train station is Schouler Park, site of many popular events, including ballgames. Next door is the Community Center, the gazebo where you can see band concerts in summer, the children's playground, and North Conway Country Club, a beautiful 18-hole course. Just north of the village is Whitaker Woods & Home Site, a favorite with walkers, runners, and cross-country skiers. Take River Road west of town and you'll go over First Bridge on River Road (a great place for swimming and tubing, but jumping from the bridge into the river is illegal) and past Hussey Field. You'll often see rock climbers on Cathedral and White Horse Ledges, while those looking for a refreshing dip on a hot summer day head for Echo Lake State Park and Diana's Baths.
