What's in a name? You might guess that our hometown is one of our favorite places in the Valley. The town of Bartlett includes Glen and Intervale; if you say "Intervale" to a local, they'll know you mean the area from the Intervale Scenic Vista to the top of Stanley's Hill (on Route 16, where the Spitfire Grill is). That's where Glen starts and heads west. There's no real dividing line between Glen and Bartlett, but if you're west of The Bernerhof, you're probaby best saying you're in Bartlett.
And yes, the town's named for the first American governor of New Hampshire, who was a signer of the Declaration of Independence - same as the P.O.T.U.S. on "The West Wing."
Population
2,544.
Schools
Josiah Bartlett Elementary School. This award-winning school includes Kindergarten through 8th grade. Students then go to Kennett High School in Conway.
Government
The town offices are on Town Hall Road in Intervale.
Recreation
Attitash Bear Peak is a ski/snowboarding resort in winter, with an alpine slide, waterslides, horseback riding, mountain biking, skate park, BMX course, and scenic chairlift in summer and fall. Bear Notch Ski Touring Center has groomed trails, and there are several places to rent snowmobiles in town. Hiking trails crisscross the town - which is what happens whenever you're surrounded by the White Mountain National Forest.

Why We Love Bartlett
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The Best Road Not Taken Often Bear Notch Road goes from the center of town south over Bear Notch to the Kancamagus Highway. There's some turn-outs with truly spectacular views along the way—but don’t plan on seeing them in winter unless you’re on skinny skis, snowshoes or a snowmobile. The road is closed from late fall to late spring.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The Best Place to Walk Your Dog there are so many spots around town, we’d have to commission a survey to be sure we’ve named the best.
Our nominee: The Experimental Forest, west of Bartlett village.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Have you got a favorite? Let us know. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The Best Local Tradition Bartlett church suppers held Saturday nights in February. If you haven’t met all the locals, come to one and you will
